Reintroducing the ERA

Phyllis Schlafly is almost 83 years old. Whoever is behind the ERA reintroduction (and renaming) must have thought that it was safe to go back in the water. Having seen Schlafly at the FedSoc Student Symposium last month, I doubt it.

Eugene Volokh has a nice breakdown of what actual effect the amendment could have.

I'm back

I was gone for a while, because blogger was locking me out. And also because I was being lazy. (But I am only lazy in blogging matters, potential future employers! If hired, I will be tireless in pursuit of the ultimate good of the firm. That is all.) Now I come back and find out that a bunch of attorneys have been shut out, Justice Department folks are pleading the fifth, and the legal community is buzzing. But I'm not going to write about that. Instead, I'll take a place from Ivan's book and show you this. Apparently, the U is doing a good job of recruiting! I'll take Bernstein's word for it, as I've only had a class with one person on that list. I just wanted to start back into the grind with some happy news. But stand by for copious doses of the old James. Finals may not be at hand, but they're peeking over the horizon.

"He always keeps talking about these figures in a cave, like they really have anything to do with the real world. Give me a break!"

Student Evaluations for Prof. Socrates. They're funny. That's really all I have.

Here's part of one:

"One thing in his defense is that he was much more positive toward gay and lesbian people. Actually, there was this one guy in class, Phaedroh or something like that, who Socrates was always looking at and one day they both didn't come to class and they disappeared for the whole day. I'm quite sure that something is going on there and that the professor is abusing his power over this student."

Oh, one more thing. It's been many, many years; why do I still [mis]pronounce Socrates Bill & Ted style?
